Law Society of Kenya(LSK) president Nelson Havi has suffered a setback in his quest to tighten control of the lawyers’ professional body after the High Court suspended the implementation of all resolutions and decisions made at a chaotic Special General Meeting last month.

The ruling by Justice Weldon Korir Wednesday reinstated eight LSK council members who had been suspended as a result of the January 18, 2021 meeting.

Another implication is halting of a forensic audit of the LSK financial books of accounts, which was being conducted by two firms.

Implementation of the resolutions will remain suspended pending the hearing and determination of a petition lodged by lawyer Kamotho Njenga, who is challenging how the meeting was conducted since hundreds of members who were attending virtually were blocked from airing their views. Mr Kamotho said the virtual attendees were systematically denied audience by Mr Havi who was presiding over the meeting.

"For avoidance of doubt, the implementation of the resolutions shall cease forthwith and all activities arising from the resolutions and the decisions of the Special General Meeting are suspended," said justice Korir.
