The Nairobi County government’s wage bill has nearly tripled to Sh17.3 billion in the wake of a hiring spree since Governor Johnson Sakaja took office three years ago.
A report by Auditor-General Nancy Gathungu shows that the number of Nairobi County workers hit 16,321 in June 2024, nearly three times the 5,777 in the record as of June 2022.
