Ms Judy Wambui and her seven-month-old son Samuel Jones Kamau at her home in Nakuru yesterday after she revealed that a DNA test had proved that marathoner Samuel Kamau Wanjiru was the boy’s father.

Another entrant joined the battle for Kenya's champion marathoner Samuel Kamau Wanjiru’s estate on Wednesday when a woman demanded a share for her baby son.

Ms Judy Wambui, who claims to be Wanjiru’s second wife, said her demand was motivated by just released DNA test results that confirmed him as her son’s biological father.

According to a DNA analysis by Biotech Forensics, the results were consistent with the claim that Wanjiru was the father of the child.
The results said the probability of Wanjiru being the father of the seven-month-old boy was 99.99 per cent.

Samples were taken from Ms Wambui, Wanjiru’s body and baby Samuel Jones Kamau.

Ms Wambui said she was happy that the results have vindicated her. “The truth has finally come out and I can now fight for my son’s rights and inheritance,” she said.

Addressing the Press at her home in Nakuru, Ms Wambui said her lawyer had written to Wanjiru’s first wife, Triza Wanjiru, and mother-in-law Hannah Wanjiru, asking them to file a petition for letters of administration, failing which she would go to court and force them to do so.

In her affidavit, Ms Wambui said she had been struggling to make ends meet since she gave birth and neither Ms Njeri nor Ms Wanjiru had been of any help.

“I have written to them but they have not responded,” she added.

She gave them 15 days to respond before she filed the case to have them summoned to court.

Ms Wambui moved to court soon after her husband’s death, requesting to be allowed to be part of the burial arrangements.
Although Justice Anyara Emukule refused her initial prayers, she allowed her to have samples taken from Wanjiru’s body for DNA tests.

She was five months pregnant at the time.

Ms Wambui appealed to the government to expedite investigations into Wanjiru’s death.

“The High Court in Nakuru ordered that an inquest be opened but since then, we have heard nothing about the issue,” she said.
