Former President Daniel Moi’s son Philip has paid part of a Sh1.8 million debt owed to his former wife Rossana Pluda, to escape being sent to jail.

The revelation was made ahead of a court appearance yesterday, which required the officer commanding Muthaiga Police Station to state why Philip had not been arrested since April 2019 for failing to pay the money.

But Justice Aggrey Muchelule was informed that Philip settled part of the amount, in a bid to settle the decade-long court battle.

Justice Muchelule had summoned the OCS two weeks ago, to explain why the warrant for the arrest of Philip has not been effected for close to two years.

Mr Moi, 59, was involved in divorce proceedings with his estranged wife Pluda, a matter that went all the way to the Court of Appeal. And after losing the cases, Philip was ordered to pay costs of the case to his former wife.

The parties recorded an agreement before court in February 2019, directing him to pay Sh1,830,000 as costs of the case, among other issues. The parties had agreed that he pays the money before March 29, 2019.

Lawyer Judy Thongori, however, went back to court saying the retired army officer had failed to comply with the directive.
