Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui maintains that Kenya lacks the capacity to manufacture clinker, extending uncertainty about proposals to scrap a controversial tax imposed on imports of the key material used in cement production.
In a fresh contradiction of President William Ruto’s recent assertion that the 17.5 percent levy on clinker imports would not be repealed, the CS said Kenya still lacks internal capacity for making of clinker, projecting that it would take up to three years to rely on local resources.
