Mwau hits out at banks for keeping cost of loans above borrowers’ reach

The Economic Secretary at the Treasury, Geoffrey Mwau, has said low competition among banks is keeping the cost of loans high, denying borrowers the advantage that would come with falling interest rates.
Last week’s drop in Treasury bill rates to just above five per cent turned the focus on banks to ease the burden on borrowers by lowering lending rates.
