  • Club alcohol drink licence (members' club, proprietary club, night club or discothèque) will attract the old rate of Sh50,000 instead of the recently passed Sh100,000.

Kwale County has lowered licence fees for bar owners in a bid to cushion them from the economic fallout of Covid-19.

The county said general retail alcoholic drink licences will be charged at the old rate of Sh12,000 instead of the recently passed Sh50,000 levy, while restaurant alcohol drink licence will attract Sh12,000 in place of the newly enacted Sh30,000.

Club alcohol drink licence (members' club, proprietary club, night club or discothèque) will attract the old rate of Sh50,000 instead of the recently passed Sh100,000.

The decision was made by Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and his deputy Fatuma Achani following disruption of business and economic downturn due to the pandemic.

Governor Mvurya directed county revenue officers to charge the old or lower rates until businesses pick up. He decried how businesses have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The governor said the county government will ensure all businesses are charged fair rates so as to cope with the aftermath of the Covid-19.

"I direct my revenue staff to continue charging you the old rates until business is back to normal after the coronavirus effects,” Mr Mvurya said.

“As government we will ensure that a conducive environment is accorded to all business people in Kwale. It is our duty to create a conducive environment for investment and a level playground for all.''
