It is expected that the candidates, teachers and the Ministry of Education are well prepared for the papers that will be administered after an unprecedented school break due to Covid-19.

It is noteworthy the Teachers Service Commission has contracted additional 26,000 teachers to mark the exams on increased enrolment. Up to 227,629 personnel will manage the examinations.

This is a great step in ensuring they are done in a favourable environment where the candidates and the materials are safe to guarantee the sanctity of the tests.

It will be important that the personnel do a good job of invigilation and supervision in the year when candidates’ preparation may have suffered due to long break and the crash programme that followed.

Such a scenario is likely to tempt schools, candidates and parents to cheat.

This must not be allowed at all costs.

Kenya is relying on the 200,000 strong army of examiners to deliver credible exams that leave the country’s education standards intact and respected across the world.
