  • “The partnership will help instil best practice among member associations as the media plays a watchdog role. Members can also purvey information on the right way to do things through NMG platforms.”

Nation Media Group (NMG) and Association of Professional Societies in East Africa (APSEA) have signed a memorandum of understanding that will see the two organisations collaborate on various programmes.

The agreement provides that the two parties will partner in a number of projects including holding sponsored networking events and coming up with new programmes based on relevant topical issues where APSEA will provide experts.

According to the pact, NMG will provide media channels for APSEA corporate members to engage the public in debates on issues of national interest as well as express their expertise and opinion through on-air interviews and newspaper articles.

“Nation journalists need the right sources for the accuracy and credibility of stories, and that’s where the professionals within APSEA come in,” said NMG Radio acting general manager Timothy Oriedo.

Bigger impact
“The partnership will help instil best practice among member associations as the media plays a watchdog role. Members can also purvey information on the right way to do things through NMG platforms.”

The professional societies body will stand to benefit from advertising fee discount from the media house and revenues realised from themed events, which will be shared between NMG and APSEA. The media house will be responsible for planning and executing the events.

“Professional bodies need to be vocal in their watchdog role of the society and this partnership will provide the platform to call out any action by the government that goes against the provisions of the Constitution of Kenya and those that are not in the interest of the nation,” said Steve Oundo, APSEA chairman.

“The partnerships will provide a platform through which the corporate members of APSEA will be able to engage with the public or relevant stakeholders in the region and beyond through different media on current affairs and have a bigger impact on society at large,” he said.

The agreement will be implemented through a joint task force of members comprising top executives from NMG and APSEA.
