Health technology firm Royal Philips has opened a Community Life Centre (CLC) in Mandera in efforts to reduce maternal and infant death rates.

The flexibility of the CLC platform allows it to be tailored to the local healthcare requirements, in terms of number of patients, service package as well as community needs.

The CLC in Dandu Ward, Mandera County, will provide the community modern, integrated quality health services for mother and child care, diagnosis and treatment of communicable diseases, and general health services,” said Jasper Westerink, chief executive Philips Africa.

He said the CLC would also offer the community clean energy supply, employment opportunities and going forward, the potential to develop commercial activities.

The technology package includes solar power for a reliable and clean energy supply, indoor and outdoor LED-lighting to enable extended opening hours and providing security to patients and staff.

The package in phase one of the CLC project will also include healthcare equipment to enable patient monitoring, diagnosis and triage, laboratory equipment for antenatal care tests and refrigeration for blood storage.
