At least 230,000 Kenyans are using Safaricom’s healthcare app M-Tiba, representing a five-fold growth since the product was rolled out nationwide six months ago.

Safaricom chief executive, Mr Bob Collymore, last week said that M-Tiba users had deposited Sh2.5 million and were now able to access healthcare in 311 accredited facilities.
M-Tiba rolled out nationally in September last year. At the time, there were 45,000 users registered onto the product and 60 healthcare facilities.
The healthcare e-wallet has been developed by Safaricom, local firm CarePay and the not-for-profit PharmAccess Group.
For Safaricom, M-Tiba is indicative of a strategy to build more innovations on its mobile money product M-Pesa.
