Some 24 beneficiaries of the KCB #ticker:KCB Foundation 2jiajiri programme have graduated after completing a three-month intensive domestic services training at Kibondeni College in Nairobi.
This brings to 945 the number of graduates in the domestic service sector sponsored by the foundation since inception in March 2016.
The three-month training involved provision of high-level skills on housekeeping, cookery and laundry.
KCB Foundation executive director Jane Mwangi said there was a need for clear training strategy and programme for domestic workers. “This would help professionalise the sector, make it a sector of choice and give it the required profile,” she said.
Ms Mwangi said domestic services sector remains a key contributor of jobs in Kenya, domestic workers continue to be viewed as lowly people.
“In an effort to change perceptions, KCB Foundation and Kibondeni College forged a working relationship that seeks to support vocational training of domestic workers under the domestic services sub-sector of our 2jiajiri programme,” she said.
