Cement group ARM Minerals and Chemicals is seeking approval from the Petroleum and Mining ministry to mine limestone in three areas in Makueni and Kajiado counties.

The holding company for ARM Cement #ticker:ARM has submitted an application to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining to grant them a mining license for the raw material for cement over a land area totalling about 281 hectares.

ARM Cement CEO Pradeep Paunrana in an interview said the three mining licences are for existing operations and that the application was meant to regularise the company’s permits as per the new Mining Act.

In a notice published in the Kenya Gazette on July 20, the ministry invited objections to the application within 42 days of the notice.

According to the Economic Survey, cement consumption decreased by 8.2 per cent to 5.8 million tonnes in 2017, indicating a slowdown in the growth of the construction industry.
