“Azuri is bringing life-changing technology to every home in sub-Saharan Africa,” Azuri CEO Simon Bransfield-Garth said.

Customers will get an equipment package including the smart-TV with an in-built StarTimes decoder, four LED solar lights, a mobile charging system and a 50-watt solar panel.

Monthly subscription is part of the package within the period, after which customers will only be required to continue paying for the solar kit, with the flexibility of adjusting to any StarTimes bouquet.

They will enjoy a two-year warranty but the TV channels are switched off in case of default.

The initiative is the first partnership between Azuri Technologies and a digital TV provider in the country.

The company entered the Kenyan market in 2012 with the solar-powered hand-held lamp and its other partners in Kenya are Mobicom, a mobile dealership, and Raj Ushanga House, which distributes and finances the firm’s solar systems across the country.

Azuri has raised hundreds of millions of shillings from investors as it continues its expansion in Kenya and other African countries.
