Bamburi Cement #ticker:BAMB has completed construction of its Sh4 billion grinding plant in Athi River that will increase production capacity by 900,000 metric tonnes a year.

It will also produce Bamburi’s Power Plus and Power Max brands that were previously made at its Mombasa plant.

Bamburi will now produce 3.4 metric tonnes from the two plants.

The new facility marks the firm’s expansion plan that started in 2015 to further boost its stake, where it commands 32.4 per cent of the local market followed by Mombasa Cement and National Cement that have 20 per cent and 18.4 per cent share respectively.

“The contractor is on schedule and will soon be handing the project over to the company for full operation. Further, we are happy that the line has produced the first bag of cement three days ahead of the scheduled time,” said Bamburi Cement CEO Seddiq Hassani in a statement.

Bamburi’s expansion comes at a time when the industry is eyeing a rebound from a challenging year that saw the construction industry take a hit, leading to a fall in cement production and consumption.
