Bamburi has submitted an application to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining to grant them a mining licence over 11,1596 square kilometres.
The licences are currently under consideration by the Mining ministry.

Bamburi in a gazette notice published on Friday showed it has submitted an application to the Ministry of Petroleum and Mining to grant them a mining licence over 11,1596 square kilometres. The licences are currently under consideration by the Mining ministry.
“Any objection to the grant of the prospecting license may be made in writing and addressed to the Cabinet secretary,” said Mining secretary John Munyes in the gazette notice.
On Friday the cement firm announced changes in its management naming former Unilever executive Grace Oluoch as the its finance director.
She took over from long serving executive Eric Kironde, who has been the company’s finance director since 2011.
Mr Kironde who briefly held the post of Bamburi managing director in an acting capacity between October last year and February has now been reassigned other unnamed roles, the cement firm said.
“The company is pleased to announce the appointment of Grace Oluoch as finance director,” said Bamburi in a regulatory notice on Friday.
Early this year, Bamburi named Seddiq Hassani as its new managing director and appointed him to the firm's board. The appointment then saw Mr Kironde relegated to his finance director responsibilities, which he has now lost.
Mr Hassani joined the cement maker from LafargeHolcim's global operations where he served as head of growth and innovation for Middle East and Africa.
Global conglomerate LafargeHolcim controls a 58.6 per cent stake in the cement maker. Bamburi is East Africa’s largest cement maker by market share.
