City Hall gives Jacaranda Hotel clean bill of health

City Hall health department has cleared Jacaranda Hotel of cholera scare on condition that it maintains the hygiene standards prevailing when it received a certificate of compliance on Wednesday.

The certificate issued by county deputy director of public health Jairus Musumba stated that the hotel — which had been ordered to shut down last week following a cholera outbreak — had complied with the Public Health Act.

While Jacaranda located on Woodvale Close off Waiyaki Way remained open, San Valencia complied.

“This certificate is only valid so long as the same status is maintained otherwise honour in default shall render null and void the validity of the certificate,” Mr Musumba said in the certificate.

Cholera has spread from Nairobi to other regions in recent days. At least two people have died of cholera in Kisumu where 21 cases of hospital admissions have also been recorded.

On Sunday, 34 Kodiaga Maximum Prison inmates were also hospitalised with diarrhoea and vomiting, symptoms associated with cholera.

Kenyatta National Hospital had over 100 patients admitted with cholera-related symptoms and 67 confirmed cases of acute diarrhoea. Cholera, which is spread by ingesting faecal matter causes acute watery diarrhoea and can kill within hours if not treated.
