Soft drinks maker Coca-Cola has introduced a new Sh50 budget soda in 425 millilitre plastic bottles as it expands its range of product servings.

The new soda is only available at kiosks and shops.

“It is a 425ml PET available in Coca-Cola, Fanta twist bottle and Sprite with a plan to include our other brands as well,” said Rodney Nzioka, a senior brand manager at Coca-Cola Kenya.

“We are offering our consumers affordable options for refreshment.”

The product offers an alternative to the 500 millilitre bottle which retails at between Sh60 and Sh80 in supermarkets and shops.

Coca-Cola last year invested Sh2.7 billion in a new production line for manufacturing new brands alongside its mainstay soda, juice and water products.

The new filling line, which is located in Embakasi, Nairobi, manufactures a revamped range of Minute Maid juices and other products.

The latest investment brings the firm’s total local investment since 2016 to Sh9.3 billion.

In Kenya, Coca-Cola remains the largest producer of soft drinks despite stiff competition from Pepsi.

The soft drinks maker in 2014 introduced a 350 millilitre takeaway plastic soda bottle, its smallest.

Coca-Cola, which has for decades enjoyed a large market share in Kenya’s soft drinks sector, came up with the strategy to take on Pepsi in the budget market.
