US company Dominion Farms Ltd has appointed Kereto Marima as the liquidator of its Kenyan unit following winding-up of the firm under the weight of bad debts.

In a gazette notice published on Friday, Dominion Farms said it had appointed Mr Marima as the receiver and manager effective July 20.

The property of the once multibillion-shilling Dominion Farms in Siaya went under the hammer earlier in the year over a supplier’s Sh27.6 million debt.

It is also said to owe over 300 workers retrenched last year more than Sh350 million in salary arrears. The management of the firm is also said to have been at the loggerheads with the community and the county leadership before its closure.

Mr Marima, an insolvency services expert, is formerly a director of the Business Advisory Group, which handled the receivership and subsequent sale of the Hillcrest Group of Schools then associated with the family of the late former Cabinet minister Kenneth Matiba.

He was also the liquidator of Atlas Development’s Kenyan units.

“All transactions relating to the said company shall be authorized by the Receiver and Manager. Any claims and matters relating to Dominion Farms Limited (in receivership) will be directed to the Receiver and Manager through the address,” said the gazette notice.
