EA Cables confirms Paul Muigai as chief executive

Listed cable manufacturer East African Cables #ticker:CABL has appointed Paul Muigai as the company's chief executive, eight months after its former CEO resigned.

Mr Muigai has been the acting CEO since the exit of former CEO Peter Arina, who resigned last August.

“The board of the East African cables PLC is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Paul Muigai as chief executive officer and executive director. He has been serving in an acting capacity since September 1, 2017,” chairman Michael Waweru said in a public notice on Friday

Mr Muigai previously worked with Unilever East Africa where he held key roles including supply chain management, procurement, operations, planning, engineering and productivity improvement.

Expatriate roles

He has also held Asia-Africa and Africa, Middle East regional expatriate roles in in Singapore and Dubai.

He is a graduate of the University of Nairobi and holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering.

“The board is confident that with this appointment, the company has the right team in place to build on the existing strengths for future sustainability and growth,” said Mr Waweru.

The Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed firm #ticker:NSE reported a net loss of Sh582.6 million in the year to December 2016, down from Sh741.2 million in 2015.

Revenues, however, fell by a marginal two per cent to Sh3.7 billion. The firm attributed this to falling metal prices in London.
