Technology firm Huawei has released a mid-range smartphone retailing for Sh16,999 in the Kenyan market, targeting the youth who have limited budgets.

The Huawei Y7 Prime features 3GB RAM and 32 GB, 5.99-inch full view Display, quality dual camera and long battery life.

The device also features a three card slot for extra SIM cards and expanded storage.

“Technology is central to their (youth) lifestyles, but most of today’s flagship devices on the market are beyond their reach due to their high prices,” said Huawei Country Director Derek Du.

Huawei has partnered with Safaricom #ticker:SCOM for sale of its devices through the telco’s network of more than 150 stores in the country.

Sales of mid-priced smartphones has grown rapidly in recent years, allowing Chinese brands Tecno, itel and Infinix to rank among the top-selling handsets, according to a survey by Consumer Insight.
