KCB appoints new board chairman

KCB Group #ticker:KCB has appointed Andrew Wambari Kairu as the new chairman, replacing Ngeny Biwott who held the position for five years.

Mr Kairu has been an independent non-executive director at KCB Group and KCB Bank Kenya since November 2016.

“He has extensive business and technical experience that is aligned and central to KCB’s transformation journey into the future,” said KCB CEO Joshua Oigara. Mr Kairu pledged to work with the directors and management to grow the bank.

The exit of Mr Biwott as chairman comes barely five months after another tier I lender- Equity Group- announced the exit of its long-serving chairman and founder Peter Munga.

Mr Kairu has more than 20 years of executive experience in the financial sector. Other positions he holds include non-executive director Dalberg Research and member of audit committee at the Commonwealth Secretariat.

He holds a degree from the University of Nairobi.
