Local business consulting and IT services firm Serianu has announced plans to venture into the Mauritian market.
The firm’s managing director, Mr William Makatiani, says the expansion will see the firm set up a cyber security training centre in Mauritius that can train up to about 500 locals per year on cyber-attack preparedness.
Mr Makatiani sees Mauritius as a strategic location due its established ICT policy frameworks, language variety and close proximity to southern Africa. “Our cyber security command and immersion center in Nairobi has shown that there is pent up demand for these training, research and network testing services for both private and public organisations in southern Africa, driven largely by a growing appreciation of the need for higher investment in information and network protection,” said Mr Makatiani in a statement last week.
Serianu in March opened its first Sub Saharan Africa cyber training centre in Nairobi.
The training centre targets cyber security professionals in Africa to hone their skills and ramp up their cyber-attack preparedness.
It mirrors those existing in Europe, the US and Asia, and is designed to meet a huge demand for such a specialized facility that provides professionals with a modern, technical environment to test individual and organizational cyber threat resilience, train cyber security professionals. According to 2016 Cyber Security Report by Serianu, Kenya’s estimated cost of cybercrime has risen by 14 per cent in 2016 to hit Sh17.5 billion.
