While total luxury car sales went up, there was a mixed performance as some brands recorded reduced orders. RMA Kenya moved 48 Land Rover models in the review period, up from 29 units the year before. Its sales of Jaguars also more than doubled to 15 from seven.

RMA’s sales benefited from significant discounts the dealer has been offering on the Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) models ahead of its exit from the local market.

The dealer is set to sell its operations to London-based Inchcape Plc, which will inherit the JLR franchise. The impending transaction is expected to be announced officially in the next few weeks.

Porsche Centre Nairobi’s sales of its models increased to 30 from 17 while Bavaria Auto’s sales of its BMW cars fell by half to 11 from 22.

DT Dobie moved 29 Mercedes cars, down from 39 and its sales of Jeep Grand Cherokee also fell to one from four.

Bentley Nairobi, which had no sales in the first half of last year, moved three units in the review period. The high-end cars are sold by different dealers, with some holding franchises for multiple brands.

Competition in the luxury segment is up with the entry of more players, with rivals betting on new models, competitive pricing and enhanced service and warranties to grow sales.
