Tech giant Microsoft and Strathmore Law School (SLS) have signed a partnership that will see the US firm finance construction of a Policy Innovation Centre at the university.
The agreement also involves the digitisation of Strathmore’s Law School, which has made it possible for students to access learning materials online.
The law school will regularly convene meetings at the centre for academia, industry, government and policy experts to discuss policy challenges locally and find solutions to them.
The Sh41.2 million centre and auditorium is the first of its kind to be established outside Microsoft office territory, the other two being in Brussels in Belgium and Washington DC.
“Strathmore is here to push policy making partnerships between public and private firms. This centre is a frontier for social change and justice,” said Dr. Luis Franceschi, the dean of the Strathmore Law School.
Christopher Akiwumi, Director for Government and Regulatory Affairs for Microsoft Middle East and Africa said the centre will provide a forum to foster dialogue and discussion around policy issues.

“The benefits are endless, having the potential to transform businesses, countries, and make way for innovations for consumers and create economic opportunities.”
