The Good Earth Group (TGEG), owner of Nyama Mama restaurants, is investing Sh500 million in two new restaurants.

The group is launching a beverage facility dubbed Blue Door offering a cocktail lounge, beer garden, nightclub and African Tapas eatery and a Chinese fine dining experience dubbed Mr Yao, both at Kenrail Towers in Westlands.

“When we introduced Nyama Mama back in 2016, our concept took something so familiar and comfortable to Kenyans yet we presented it in a fresh, modern context. We believe this has been the key to our success and we plan to continue to roll out this formula in the many innovative concepts that will be launched in 2019,” said Mr Jay Shanghavi, managing director of the Good Earth Group.

Head of operations Priyan Kolapara said the outlets are set to open in the second quarter.

They will occupy a space of 14,000 square feet.

At the end of 2018, TGEG introduced Good Earth Deli and Bakery as well as a Good Earth Catering in addition to the new Nyama Mama branch at Capital Centre on Mombasa Road.

According to The Global Cities 2018 report, spend on eating out and restaurants in Kenya will increase by 77 per cent from Sh84.8 billion ($848 million) to Sh105 billion ($1.5 billion) over the next decade.

The increase in restaurant spend is mirrored in the hotel sector, with the chase for consumer hunger seen with the entry of international brands and rapid expansion especially fast food franchises, says the report.

KFC, Subway, Pizza Hut, Burger King, as well as Simbisa Brands — which include Pizza Inn, Chicken Inn and Galitos — have been growing their network of restaurants to cash in on expanding tastes.
