Nyeri-based firm Express Transcab Limited has launched the first taxi-hailing app in Mt Kenya region, eyeing business and leisure travelers.

The application, Transcab, is seeking a bite of the taxi market that is dominated by the likes of Uber, Taxify, Little Rides among others. The company is unlikely to face competition from its rival firm as none have launched their services in major towns around the Mt Kenya region.

Addressing the media during the launch in Nyeri town, the firm’s Managing Director Morris Nzioka said the application was developed by Kenyan programmers. The firm also wants to take advantage of the Nyaribo airstrip that is currently operating with the launch of commercial flights between Nairobi and Nyeri town.

The app has an option of boda boda, tuk tuks, taxis, trucks and lorries. Mr Nzioka noted that the app has strict security measures in place to flag down operators with expired documents including PSV insurance and licences.

“We will conduct thorough vetting of drivers to ensure that they are operating with valid documents. This will promote confidence among our clients,” he said.

There is a provision for trucks that will allow farmers and construction companies to transport farms produce and building material respectively without much hustle.
