PG Bison has bought new automated machines to expand its production of wood-based panel products for the Kenyan market.
Wood-based panel products manufacturer, PG Bison, is expanding its factory to handle an expected surge in demand from the Sate-fronted affordable housing programme.
The firm, which recently completed a Sh370 million upgrade, said Thursday it has bought new automated machines to expand its production of wood-based panel products for the Kenyan market.
Managing director Hitesh Mediratta said the first machine is expected in January and a second one imported from Germany is expected at their Industrial area factory in early March.
“The government’s housing programme promises to allocate small and medium enterprises (SMEs) contracts to carry out specific tasks within the residential developments. That model fits our strategy as our products will be fitted within homes and offices by SMEs employing about 600 trained artisans,” he said.
Mr Mediratta spoke when he hosted Kenya Association of Manufacturers chairman Sachen Gudka, chief executive Phyllis Wakiaga and board member Bharat Shah at the opening of the firm’s upgraded showroom.
Mr Gudka welcomed the reduction of import duty for semi-processed wood-based panels from 35 per cent to 25 per cent, saying SMEs handling office and domestic furniture assembling jobs would buy products at lower prices.
Mr Mediaratta said they are in talks with imported furniture dealers to make popular products locally made as ready to assemble furniture.
