The Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) is set to earn Sh1.1 billion for logistical services offered to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in both the August 8 General Election and the October 26 repeat presidential poll.
Under the two-year contract, Posta, which has been battling dwindling revenue, will be paid Sh600 million for delivering ballot boxes, papers and indelible ink to polling centres during the August election.
The company will also receive another Sh500 million for distribution of electoral materials and equipment during the October 26 presidential repeat poll.
“We signed a two-year contract with the IEBC for logistical services. We have only been paid 20 per cent of the work we did in the August 8 General Election,” said Eliud Lell, general manager for mails, PCK.
“We are following up on pending payments from the poll body so that we can pay other service providers we worked with. We are in communication and they assured us that they will pay.”
The country is set to go into the presidential repeat polls in the next 16 days.
