EADB says it targets to train 600 doctors in Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda by 2020, with doctors working in the counties being the primary focus of the training in Kenya to ease cost burden for patients who seeking treatment in city hospitals.
Kampala-based East Africa Development Bank (EADB) says it has injected Sh165 million in a regional training programme targeting 394 doctors to handle cancer-related ailments.
Speaking during the issuance of certificates for 42 Kenyan doctors in Nairobi, EADB director general Vivienne Yeda said the three-year project was informed by rising burden of diseases, particularly non-communicable diseases (NCDs) such as cardiovascular, cancer, diabetes and chronic respiratory ailments in Africa.
