Domestic-focused airline Safarilink’s long-time managing director, John Buckley, is set to retire at the end of this year, with the company naming Alex Avedi as his successor.
Mr Buckley has held the position since 2004 and has steered the company through several cycles in the tourism market— its main target. Mr Buckley, who is also a co-founder of Safarilink, will remain as a shareholder and board member.
Mr Avedi’s appointment will be effective in June, according to a statement by the company’s chairman Mbuvi Ngunze.
“We wish him (Avedi) every success as he assumes his new responsibilities. We are confident that under his leadership and guidance, the airline, with the support of entire team and the board, will continue to expand and develop aviation in the region,” said Mr Ngunze.
Mr Avedi’s most recent role has been at Kenya Airports Authority as general manager taking care of operations and safety.
He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Nairobi and has numerous certificates in aviation management including a Post Graduate Diploma in Advanced Aviation Management from the University of Geneva.
