Sendy slashes courier fees to woo SMEs

Mobile-based logistics firm Sendy has reduced its courier fees as it eyes increased uptake of its pickup, van and truck delivery services among small medium enterprises (SMEs).

The parcel delivery start-up announced the new prices Tuesday in a move that pushed down pickup and van motor vehicles delivery cost by 33 per cent to Sh1,500 for a five kilometre distance.

It also revised fees for its three-tonne truck delivery service to Sh4,500 for a 20 kilometre distance.

However, Sendy’s popular motorcycle delivery service charges will remain unchanged at Sh250 for up to seven kilometres and Sh30 for every additional kilometre.

“We currently have over 5,000 businesses and hope to double this number with the various initiatives we are undertaking including making our prices competitive as well as having more partners to fulfill all our clients’ needs,” Sendy founder and chief executive Meshack Alloys said.

told the Business Daily yesterday.

The firm said the reduced rates are permanent and will remain unchanged even with the looming fuel price increase.

“We are aware that the increase in fuel prices will result to increased costs. However, we believe that this move will increase the demand which will in turn increase revenue for our Partner drivers,” he said.

Mr Alloys is optimistic that the price cuts will attract players in the informal sector to use the mobile app to request delivery services.

“We decided to reduce prices of these vehicle types not only to increase uptake of customers doing deliveries with us but most importantly, to create demand of our pickup, vans and trucks for our drivers,” a statement from the firm said.
