Estonian-based taxi-hailing platform Taxify expanded in major cities in East Africa, with the most popular destination for travellers being Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi in the fourth quarter of last year.
Besides Nairobi, the firm also ventured into Mombasa, Kampala and Dar es Salaam over the last quarter of 2017, a move that has helped the company grow further.

“This is our first anniversary in the country and we would like to celebrate with everyone. As part of our first-anniversary gift to Kenyans, we will be rewarding our loyal riders in Nairobi with 12 iPhones an appreciation for all the support we have received from Kenyans,” said Alex Mwaura, city manager, Taxify Kenya.
The taxi-hailing firm also revealed that its longest journey in Nairobi cost Sh6,000 and covered 176 kilometres and took more than three and half hours. Toyota Fielder is also the most popular car model under the platform.
Taxify is Uber’s biggest competitor locally and has since its launch in Kenya unveiled services that rival those of the US tech firm.
Last October, the firm launched a premium cab category that promises customers more comfortable rides.
The taxi-hailing firm’s new ride category dubbed Taxify Comfort has a minimum fare of Sh250 compared to the ordinary minimum charges of Sh220. Uber’s premium category launched weeks before, UberSELECT, charges a minimum Sh300 per trip.
The firm also entered cities within the region where Uber has operations, upping the competition.
