Mombasa based lawyer charged in Sh100m land transfer dispute

A Mombasa lawyer has been charged with illegal transfer of Sh100 million property. 

Angelo Owino, who was arraigned before Chief Magistrate Evans Makori, faces three counts of obtaining registration of a land certificate by false pretence, conspiracy to commit a felony and preparing documents while being unqualified to act as an advocate.

He is accused of wilfully procuring a plot in Mombasa for Douglas Mwangi Muteru, the property of Bashir Meraj Din Ahmed Bux.

He is also accused of conspiring with others to commit a felony of obtaining the registration of a land certificate by false pretence.

The lawyer faces the third charge of handling a land transaction while unqualified to act as an advocate.

Mr Owino, who was represented by lawyer Edward Gichana, pleaded not guilty to all charges.

He was released on a Sh500,000 bond with surety of a similar amount, with an alternative cash bail of Sh100, 000. The case will be heard Tuesday next week.
