Four Kenyan women-owned businesses are showcasing at COTERIE, a premier global event connecting women fashion designers.
Adele Dejak, Aprelle Duany, Katungulu Mwendwa and Lilabare Clothing will have an opportunity to showcase their collections and connect with international buyers at the three-day event that ends tomorrow.
They are part of ten companies — alongside five Nigerian and one Ghanainan— of SheTrades in the Commonwealth Programme, funded by the United Kingdom’s Department for International Development (DFID).
“This year SheTrades is showcasing new brands including Bello Edu, a Ghanaian company, and Lilabare Clothing from Kenya. If you are going to COTERIE, you will find them at the SheTrades booth 1130,” said SheTrades in a statement.
In 2018, SheTrades sponsored a delegation of nine brands from Ghana, Kenya and Nigeria to attend the fall edition of COTERIE.
The edition led to meetings with 100 buyers and secured $495,000 (Sh49.5 million) in trade leads.
COTERIE is the premier global event that connects women's apparel, accessories, and footwear designers with the international 'who’s who' of retailers.
This year’s event is at the Javits Center in New York City
COTERIE “builds exclusive shopping experiences from the ground up” so that brands and buyers can create synergies that fuel their businesses.
The SheTrades initiative seeks to connect three million women to market by 2021.
The initiative brings together stakeholders around the world to work on seven actions to address trade barriers and create greater opportunities for women entrepreneurs. It is supported by a web and mobile digital platform.
The SheTrades in the Commonwealth programme aims to increase economic growth and job creation in Commonwealth countries by increasing the participation of women-owned businesses in international trade.
