Learn to accept life as it is when change is elusive

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods on the road found himself very hungry. He decided to ask someone for a meal at the next house.

However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door, and just asked for a glass of water. She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it slowly, and then asked, “How much do I owe you?”

“You don’t owe me anything,” she replied. “Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness.” He thanked the young woman and left. As the boy left, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was also strong. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Years later that young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

One Dr Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room. He went in to see her and recognised her at once. He went back determined to do his best to save her life.

He gave special attention to the woman and after a long struggle, the battle was won. Dr Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge and the bill was sent to her room.

She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally, she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She began to read the following words: “Paid in full with one glass of milk. Signed, Dr Howard Kelly.”

Accept life like a pair of walking legs.  The foot forward has no pride and the foot behind has no shame.  Both know their situations will soon change.

1.    Accept what you cannot change and change what you cannot accept:  Sometimes you got to accept that things can’t be what you want them to be, the best option in that case is to accept it and move on.  But if you insist you cannot accept it leave no opportunity to change it.

2.    Change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end: You need to embrace changes. Life is guaranteed to change; if you are ready to understand and accept the changes, you will reap the benefit, if not you will repent.

3.    Sometimes things we cannot change end up changing us: Life is about moving on, accepting changes and looking forward to what makes you stronger and complete, because after all the only constant thing in life is change.

4.    Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be: So worry less, smile more; accept when things go wrong, take responsibility, change what you can, give it another shot.
