KPA rewards top performing individuals, firms

  • Panel of judges said Mr Ondego was feted for his distinguished career in the shipping and port related industry dating back to the early 1970s.

The inaugural East African Maritime Awards held on Friday night featured outstanding users of Mombasa port in the region including top shipping companies and multi-national logistic firms.

Former Kenya Ports Authority managing director Brown Ondego won the Lifetime Achievement Award in the maritime industry. Panel of judges said Mr Ondego was feted for his distinguished career in the shipping and port related industry dating back to the early 1970s.

“Today we, the 1st panel of judges of the first East African Maritime Awards(EAMA), are honoured to bestow the Lifetime Achievement Award upon Mr Brown M’Mbai M’Mata Ondego, MBS, an outstanding globally recognized professional in the maritime sector,” said George Mboya from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Kenya, who was the chief judge.

Maersk Line was feted as the Best Shipping Line, while l messina was declared the best Shipping Agent,

Bollore Logistics Uganda was voted as the best clearing and forwarding agent in Uganda, while Kenya Freightwell Express won the same accolades locally.

Best regional cargo logistics provider award went to Bollore transport and logistics while the importer of The Year Uganda award went to Crown Beverages. In Kenya the award was won by Delmonte. Delmonte was also feted as the Exporter of The Year.

Best Cargo Transporter award went to Siginon Group while KenTrade was voted the most efficient State agency based on national survey conducted by InfoTrack Research and Consulting

Naj tracking emerged the winner of the Auxiliary Service Provider award and Business Initiative award while Marine Cargo insurance award was bagged by ICEA LION General Insurance.

Innovation award was won by Lori systems with Bollore transport & Logistics winning in the Safety award.

Membership Organisation award winner was Oil Spill Mutual Aid Group Society.

Entries were open to all registered, licensed and authorised players in the maritime industry serving the Port of Mombasa.

The EAMA awards are an initiative of KPA in collaboration with the Kenya Maritime Authority, Kenya Revenue Authority, Kenya Trade Network Agency, Shippers Council of Eastern Africa, East African Business Council and Think Business Limited.
