Feiraville is a portal which targets small businesses. It enables them to create an online profile, display their products and get an email address with its domain. Consumers can post public comments and questions about products.

Benson Kimani, the founder, has been building websites for small businesses on a freelance basis for nearly a decade.

"People get excited about putting their work on the net. Then they become unable to pay for the domains and they expire. If someone else buys the same domain, they are not able to get it back. First they lose their email address then they lose their content," said Mr Kimani.

Feiraville was born out of research Mr Kimani carried out over two years to find a solution for exclusion of small businesses.

According to Mr Kimani, stories are a big feature of the platform. Apart from commenting, users can blog about their experiences with products. “Five to six years ago most people just wanted to be seen online,”he said.

“Nowadays before people buy something they want to see who else bought it and their experience. If it is a restaurant they want to know what someone ate and their experience,” he said.

Although Feiraville does not charge businesses for setting up their profiles, they have to pay subscription fees to display more than 10 products. Feiraville is also looking to make money through adverts from companies as well as featuring products on frequently visited pages.
