Travellers at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will soon be spared the requirement to have their hand luggage ransacked after the taxman assured installation of scanners.
Hotel operators have been complaining of the embarrassment their guests go through at the point of entry. Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Commissioner-General John Njiraini told Parliament that manual checking of hand luggage has been due to lack of scanners at the airport.
“We are in the process of installing hand luggage scanners at Terminal E of JKIA which will remove the need for the ransacking,” Mr Njiraini told the National Assembly Public Investment Committee.
The practice has been for travellers’ bags to be opened and everything checked to certify that nothing illegal is being carried.
