This year, online video platform YouTube launched a localised YouTube Music charts which captures exactly what Kenyans are listening to every week, incentivising local audiences to the platform.
Young Kenyans are getting better at creating video content aimed at entertaining and inspiring audiences.
This is according to Google, which announced that the country's most watched YouTube video in 2018 was an episode of comedy series Mark Angel Comedy titled 'Who Died', a sketch video piece starring popular Nigerian child comedian Emmanuella Samuel.
The second top trending video in the non-music category was one of a Kenyan bride and her bridesmaids dancing, while 'Njugush Ame Nduthika' by comedian Njugush came in third place.
“This year’s top trending videos are a testament to the adeptness of Kenyan YouTubers in creating content that entertains, informs and inspires their audiences. What is clear from looking at the Top Trending Videos is the ability of creators to connect with their fans to entertain, inspire and educate,” said Africa’s Head of Communications & Public Affairs at Google Dorothy Ooko in a statement.
A video clip showing lawyer Miguna Miguna’s deportation at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport was fourth in the ranking.

Other popular videos included the match between Portugal and Spain during the FIFA World Cup 2018 and one of former US President Barack Obama dancing in Kogelo with his grandmother Sarah and half-sister Auma.
In the music category, the most popular video among Kenyans was Kwangwaru by Harmonize featuring Diamond Platinumz, followed by Short and Sweet by Sauti Sol featuring Nyashinski and Chaguo La Moyo by Otile Brown and Sanaipei Tande respectively.
