The service which is available on IOS and Android platforms is accepted in over 230 restaurants and hotels.
M-Kula, an app that helps companies give food vouchers to employees, scooped one of the seven Hub African awards at an event held last Thursday in Casablanca, Morocco.
The company won the 2018 Hub Africa Innovative Company of the year award for “making a very simple solution to solve major corporate and social challenges for employers”.
Hub Africa awards recognise innovative entrepreneurs on the continent.
“We settled on digital lunch vouchers because food is a very important component in the labour market yet it is often ignored. Food helps drive productivity and motivation and ultimately a company’s bottom line,” said Neil Ribeiro, the CEO of Sodexo Kenya, in a statement on Wednesday.

M-Kula enables a user to order and pay for food in the same way customers purchase goods and services through Safaricom’s mobile money platform M-Pesa.
“Numerous studies have shown that there is a world of difference between companies that offer their staff lunch and those that don’t. We have also proved it in Kenya,” said Mr Ribeiro.
The awards had over 1,000 entries of across Africa out of which only seven won. Other awards were Woman Entrepreneur of theYear award, Grand Price Hub Africa, South-South Corporation of the Year Award and Social Impact of the Year Award.
