12 former PSs to pocket hefty payouts after sack

Twelve former principal secretaries (PSs) are set to get a hefty payoff of at least Sh8 million each in gratuity after President Uhuru Kenyatta failed to renew their contracts.

Mr Kenyatta dismissed the 12 when he named his second-term Cabinet in January.

Head of the Public Service Joseph Kinyua wrote to the affected earlier this year terminating their contracts with effect from June 30.

A PS earns Sh765,188 a month, according to the Kenya Gazette notice 6516 of July 7, 2017 by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

They are entitled to a service gratuity at the end of their term at the rate of 31 per cent of annual basic pay for every year served.

Ten of the affected were appointed in November 2015 after Mr Kenyatta announced a new-look government. They have worked for 32 months bringing their payout to about Sh7.8 million each.

They include Joe Okudo, Sammy Itemere, Aidah Munano, Victor Kyalo, Patrick Nduati Mwangi, Khadija Kassachoom and Dr Mohammed Ibrahim Mahmud.

Others are Fatuma Hersi, Wilson Nyakera Irungu and Dinah Jerotich Mwinzi.

Two others came on board in 2013. They include Ali-Noor Ismail and Mwanamaka Mabruki.

The two will take home at least Sh9.4 million each having worked for over 40 months.
