A former deputy Registrar of the Supreme Court has moved to court seeking close to Sh80 million from the Judiciary over her sacking.

Lucy Njora, who was shown the door in January after being on suspension for more than a year, accuses the Judicial Service Commission of illegally terminating her employment.

The case was certified as urgent by Justice Onesmus Makau, who directed Ms Njora’s lawyers to serve the JSC and the Chief Registrar of the Judiciary with the court papers.

The case could not proceed as the Judiciary asked for more time to put in their papers. The case will now be heard on July 2.

Ms Njora was interdicted in June 2016 by former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga after she failed to stop Supreme Court Judge Njoki Ndung’u from hearing an appeal filed by Judges Philip Tunoi and former Deputy Chief Justice Kalpana Rawal, who had contested plans to retire them at 70 years.

Her case has been pending before the JSC since 2016 and it was not until last year when she was asked to appear before the Commission.

Seven months later, she was dismissed.
