Moroccan national carrier, Royal Air Maroc (RAM), will suspend its flights on the Casablanca — Nairobi — Ndjamena (Chad) route from the end of next month.
The airline had not responded to the Business Daily’s queries on reasons for abandoning the route by the time of going to Press.
“The last Royal Air Maroc flight to the Kenyan capital, currently on the Casablanca — N'Djamena — Nairobi route, is scheduled for March 29,” the airline was quoted last week by Moroccan media as having said.
The airline, which began its Kenyan foray with two weekly flights in 2016, had by last year adjusted its schedule to three nights a week.
The development comes months after it announced plans to launch flights to five other East African cities last year.
Country manager Othman Baba told the Business Daily earlier in an interview the move, inspired by Nairobi experience, was part of RAM’s efforts to claw back a share of the intra-African aviation transport which is currently controlled by foreign interests. Mr Baba had not responded to our questions by press time despite promising to do so through a public relations representative.
Royal Air Maroc is so far the only North African airline that runs a direct Nairobi-Ndjamena (Chad) flight.
