Members of the National Assembly were united Thursday in fighting off stiff opposition from the executive to allocate themselves Sh8.7 billion for road maintenance in all the 290 constituencies.
The amount is provided for under the road transport project of the Infrastructure department, which has been allocated Sh180 billion to finance its projects in the 2018/19 budget as National Treasury Henry Rotich outlined revenue collection and financing measures of the Sh3.074 trillion budget.
The allocation translates to Sh30 million per constituency to repair the damages to infrastructure caused by the recent heavy rains across the country and will be channelled through the National Government- Constituency Development Fund (CDF) that MPs oversight.
Foreign donors

On the sidelines of the recent G7 meeting in Canada, President Uhuru Kenyatta struck a deal with the donors to finance the repairs at the constituency roads, according to Mr Ichung’wah.
MPs shot down his attempt to have the Sh30 million reduced by Sh20 million.
