The latest development throws into disarray more than 1,000 students pursuing law at the institution. Prof W Kulundu–Bitonye, the Council of Legal Education chief executive, in a Press statement accused the universityof failure to adhere to requirements laid down by the council for institutions offering legal education.

Prof Kulundu–Bitonye said audits had revealed that Moi could not deliver the law course. But Moi University acting Vice-Chancellor Laban Ayiro maintained that the law degree was approved by the Commission for University Education, the body that accredits university courses.

Last April the High Court nullified the council’s order that the university stops offering the course.
