The Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) is set to conduct a final verification process on engineering courses offered by University of Eldoret next week prior to the final registration.
The university on Thursday said it has been constantly engaging the EBK to ensure that the accreditation process is on course and certification is received.

“There is one more stage to go through, the accreditation visit, confirmed for February 21, 2018. Irrespective of this pending visit, the University was granted authority by the EBK to graduate the first cohort of 66 students during the fifth graduation ceremony that was held on November 24, 2017,” the university said in a statement.

“The board noted and appreciated the steps the institution had undertaken in the accreditation process. They are to conduct the accreditation visit to verify certain areas prior to the final registration,” the statement read.

The status of the accreditation of the engineering courses has ruffled feathers at the university for several weeks now. The 500 students who were picked by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) for the engineering slots have been demanding that the EBK first approve the courses.

The students boycotted classes for the past month and refused to sit end-of-semester examinations, forcing the university to send them home on January 28.

On Thursday, the university administration restated that its engineering courses in agricultural and biosystems, civil and structural, and mechanical and production, have been approved by the EBK and the Commission for University Education (CUE).

“The three curricula were presented to the EBK and CUE and met all the requirements. The university received communication from the respective bodies to affirm the same,” the university said.
