Four officials of the Kenya National Union of Nurses were let off the hook on Tuesday after a judge pardoned them for disobeying a court order over a recent strike.

The four including secretary-general Seth Panyako, his deputy Maurice Opetu, interim chairman John Gwasi and assistant general secretary Asha Ali Ido appeared before Justice Nelson Abuodha and said they were not personally served with the court documents. Mr Panyako, however, told the court that the strike had been called off.

The Council of Governors, which had moved to court and obtained orders stopping the strike for 60 days, said the orders were served to the officials through their emails and the union offices. But Mr Panyako told the court that he had been sued personally and expected to be served in person.

The Judge issued a stern warning to the union officials, saying they will be punished severely if they disobeyed court orders in the future.
