Former Roads and Transport secretary Michael Kamau, facing Sh33 million graft charges, has opposed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji consolidating the case with another one involving seven engineers, including former PS Gilbert Mong’are Arasa.

Mr Kamau, who has tried in vain to quash his prosecution several times, said “he wants his case tried on its own.”

Mr Kamau is jointly charged with two engineers, Mwangi Maingi and Nicholas Ndung’u Mwangi.

They are charged with abuse of office over the redesigning of Kamukuywa-Kaaptama-Kapsokwony-Sirisia road in Bungoma County leading to the loss of Sh33 million ten years ago.

They have denied the charges before anti-corruption chief magistrate Douglas Ogoti. Mr Kamau is opposing his case being consolidated with the one against former PS Arasa and Philip Onyango Sika, Weche Raphael Okubo, Sylus Wachira Gitau, Charles Oike Mubweka, Kata Matemu Kithiio and Kenneth Mwangi.

The seven are accused of redesigning the road without planning.

They allegedly committed the offence between November 6, 2007 and March 12, 2008.

Mr Ogoti directed the DPP to file a formal application and set the matter to be argued on November 6, 2018.
