Public Service, Youth and Gender Affairs secretary Margaret Kobia has sent all officers from procurement, finance and accounting departments at the National Youth Service (NYS) on compulsory leave to pave way for investigations into the loss of billions of shillings of taxpayers money at the agency.
The move comes barely two days after Public Service and Youth Affairs principal secretary Lilian-Omollo and NYS director-general Richard Ndubai stepped aside.
“Following the stepping aside of the Principal Secretary, Youth and Public Service, and the National Youth Service Director-General due to the ongoing investigations at NYS, I hereby direct that all officers at NYS in procurement, finance and accounting who are under investigations are directed to proceed on compulsory leave effective immediately to allow investigators to complete their work,” said Prof Kobia in a statement yesterday.

“I’m giving them an opportunity to bring what they have, including all records they think will convince our officers that money was paid genuinely. I have assembled enough detectives. I want to be clinical because after that we shall meet in court and I do not want to hear people saying they were not listened to,” said Mr Kinoti yesterday.
Investigators want to establish if there are cases of collusion between suppliers and the officials that may have resulted in the theft of money in fictitious claims at the agency.
The latest scandal is set to thwart gains made by the Jubilee administration in the fight against corruption.
